1.  Meiji Jingu Shrine

A large torii gate called Otorii.

If there is one shrine visitors to Tokyo should not miss, it isMeiji Jingu Shrine surrounded by a wide manmade forest with a large torii gate called Otorii. You will absolutely feel a sacred atmosphere there.

2. Imperial Palace and East Gardens

You are able to see both the Imperial Palace where the Imperial Family lives and the beautiful East Gardens.
Admission free.
Sightseeing tours inside the Palace are available twice a day but advance reservations are needed.

3. Asakusa and Senso-ji Temple

Asakusa is the best tourist destination in Tokyo to experience the most vibrant and reminiscent atmosphere of traditional Japan. From Kaminarimon Gate translated as the `Thunder Gate’ to Senso- ji Temple is the best place to buy traditional Japanese souvenirs and try Japanese confections.

4. Toyosu Market

Tsukiji Market has recently moved to the Toyosu area.
The Toyosu market features the tuna auction show starting on Jan/15/2019 and a variety of delicious fresh sushi is available in the market.
The Toyosu Market Visitors’ Course is a good way to see the huge market. Most shops open early in the morning and closes at 5:00 pm.

5. Hamarikyu Park

Hamarikyu Garden is a typical strolling type of Japanese garden by the sea.
It features 300 year old black pine trees planted by the Tokugawa Shogun.

6. Kiyosumi Park

Kiyosumi Park is a typical strolling type of garden with a collection of precious natural stones.
Admission fee: 150 JPY

7. Tokyo Tower & Zojoji Temple

Tokyo Tower

Tokyo Tower is the 333 meter- high landmark of Tokyo.
If the sky is clear, you can see Mt .Fuji and magnificent views of Tokyo.

Next to the tower, Zojoji Temple used to be the temple for the Tokugawa Shoguns (the leaders of the government in the 17th to 19th century) where you can feel a traditional Buddhist atmosphere.

8. Ueno Park, Museum or Zoo  2 – 4 hours depends on places to visit

There are many museums, temples and shrines and a popular zoo with a giant panda in the Ueno area. They are excellent places to understand our culture and people. Tokyo National Museum is the largest museum in Japan and has a nice museum shop for souvenirs.
Admission fee: about 1,000 JPY each

9. Tokyo Camii mosque  0.5 – 1 hour depends on purpose

Tokyo Camii mosque is the largest mosque in Tokyo. It is a beautiful mosque and open to the public.
Admission free.

10. Koishikawa Korakuen Park, a Japanese garden  1 hour

Koishikawa-Kōrakuen

Koishikawa-Kōrakuen is a so-called Daimyo garden built in the 17th century in Koishikawa in Tokyo. The garden was completed by Mito Mitsukuni, a popular feudal lord who ruled Mito, present Ibaragi prefecture in the Edo period (16-19th century). It incorporates elements of both Chinese and Japanese tastes.

11. Observatory of World Trade Center  1 hour

You can enjoy the best view of Tokyo here from the height of 150m. It is especially romantic at night! There are chairs around the observatory to sit back in and relax. This is a place not to miss when you are in Tokyo. Not crowded with a cheaper admission price compared to Tokyo Tower and Sky Tree.

12. Ginza  2 hours – 1 day depends on places to visit

Ginza

Ginza is the most sophisticated shopping area in Tokyo. There are large department stores, brand shops and Kitty land. How about having lunch at Ginza Six, the recently opened largest high-end shopping mall in Japan. Ginza is also famous as a center of culture and art. Ginza has many art galleries as well as important Kabuki and Takarazuka theaters.

13. Harajuku/Shibuya  2 hours – 1 day depends on places to visit

Shibuya

Harajuku and Shibuya are busy areas in Tokyo for shopping, eating and visiting the cat, owl and hedgehog cafés. Meiji Jingu Shrine, located in the area, is surrounded by a deep forest and is the largest and most popular shrine in Tokyo.

14. Tokyo Skytree

TOKYO SKYTREE

It is the tallest tower in Japan with 350m and 450m observatories. There’s more than just the view from the observation deck! There are all kinds of things to enjoy at TOKYO SKYTREE including various shops, restaurants and an aquarium.
Admission fee 2000JPY for 350m observatory, 3000JPY for 450m observatory.

15. Samurai museum

At the Samurai museum you can observe real Samurai coats of armors and swords while enjoying listening to the staff giving you an explanation about the backgrounds of these items. You can take pictures wearing these coats of armors.     
Admission fee 1800JPY per adult and 800 JPY per child.

16. Tokyo metropolitan government observatory

There are two observatories with splendid views of Tokyo. If you are lucky, you may see Mt. Fuji far away in the distance. The Tokyo Metropolitan Government Office Building was designed by a famous Japanese architect, Kenzo Tange.

18. Sengakuji Temple

Sengakuji Temple

Sengakuji Temple is a famous and popular Buddhist temple in Japan. It is close to JR Shinagawa station.
This temple is famous for its graveyard where the “47 Ronin” (known as Akoroshi, masterless samurai from Ako) are buried.

19. Odaiba

    Admission fee 3,200 JPY per adult and 1,000 JPY per child.
  2. Venus Fort in Odaiba
    Venus Fort is a big shopping mall where you can experience the heart of Japanese fashion, food, and culture. Giant Sky Wheel in Palette Town next to Venus Fort is a landmark in Odaiba. You can enjoy the splendid view of Tokyo Tower and Tokyo Sky Tree, a 16 minute-ride in the twilight would be very romantic.
  3. Legoland Discover Center Tokyo
    Legoland Discover Center provides not only lego classes, but also lego athletics and attractions where kids can experience and discover the pleasure of creating things.
    Admission fee: 2,500 JPY for kids (3 years old and over) and adults. Discount prices are available on weekdays.
  4. Miraikan – The National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation
    This science museum allows visitors to become familiar with science through participation based on exhibits and dialogues with scientists and engineers. The chief Executive Director of the museum is Dr. Mamoru Mohri, a famous Japanese astronaut. It is also popular for the robot demonstrations of ASIMO held 4 times a day (10 minutes for each time).
    Admission fee 620 JPY for adults, 210 JPY for 18 years old and under.
  5. MEGAWEB (Theme park of automobiles)
    MEGA WEB is the car theme park to ‘Look at ‘, ‘Ride’ and ‘Feel’ automobiles. It is the extremely enjoyable TOYOTA theme park. There are 3 facilities based on each theme. TOYOTA City Show Case is a gigantic space with about sixty of TOYOTA’s current model cars on display. History Garage is a space that you can feel the ‘History of cars’. RIDE STUDIO is a place for children to enjoy the experience of driving and learn about some traffic rules.

20. Akihabara  2 – 3 hours

Akihabara is an interesting town because of its two faces. One is that Akihabara is known as the largest electric appliance shopping district in Japan. There are more than 600 stores exclusively selling electronic products. The other is that it is familiar as the center of nerd or “Otaku” in Japanese. Some shops specialize in manga/comics, animated films and figurines related to animated films. Maid cafe and animal cafe such as an owl cafe and a hedgehog cafe originated from Akihabara.

21. Nakano Broadway

It is a multi-story shopping complex famous for a variety of stores selling anime, manga/comics and pop culture goods. This area is for “Otaku”. It’s commonly called the `Geek Area’

22. Nezu Museum

The traditional and gorgeous Japanese and Asian art of the Nezu Museum collection and a beautiful garden located in Aoyama will surely dazzle you.

23. Sankeien in Yokohama

Sankeien

Sankeien is a spacious garden with a three -story pagoda where you are able to see the elegance of the four seasons and historic charm without going to Kyoto.

24. The Great Budda of Kamakura and Hasedera Temple

Kamakura Daibutsu

The statue is commonly known as Kamakura Daibutsu. The colossal copper image of Amida-butsu (Amitabha Budda) sits in the open air. Admission fee 200 JPY

Hasedera Temple features 11 Headed Kannon (the Goddess of Mercy) and the scenic beauty of seasonal flowers and view of Sagami Bay from the hill of the temple.

25. Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine and Hokokuji Temple in Kamakura  4 hours

Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine

Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine is one of the historic sites that represents Kamakura.
You will be able to experience the traditional atmosphere of ancient Japan without going to Kyoto and Nara.

26.The World Heritage Sites in Nikko  full day tour

Toshogu Shrine

Nikko is one of the most popular sightseeing spots in Japan because of its natural and manmade beauty. Toshogu Shrine, Futarasan Shrine and Rinnoji Temple are designated as World Heritage Sites.
Admission fee: 1300 JPY for Toshogu Shrine, 400 JPY for Rinnoji Temple and free for Futarasan Shrine except for Shinen garden which is 200 JPY

27.  Naritasan Shinsyoji Temple

Naritasan Shinshoji Temple

Naritasan Shinshoji Temple is the main temple of the Shingonshu sect. The top-ranked of the “Big Three” temples in the Kanto regions. It is visited by about 10 million people each year. About a 15 minute- walk from the JR Narita Station to the temple, you can feel an atmosphere of the Edo period, old Japan. (Edo period: from 17th century to 19th century)
Since Naritasan Shinshoji Temple is close to Tokyo(Narita) International Airport, you can visit the temple during your transit/layover time.

28. Rikugi-en Garden

Rikugi-en Garden was the garden of Yanagisawa Yoshiyasu (1658 – 1714), the lord of Kawagoe clan. He was deeply trusted by the 5th Tokugawa Shogun, Tsunayoshi. It was built in 1702 with an area of 8.6 ha. Regarding the origin of the garden’s name, “Rikugi-en” was named after the six categories of waka poetry which was originated from Chinese ancient poems. You can enjoy strolling in this beautiful traditional Japanese garden. Admission fee 300 JPY
